Rescuers need rescuing? Chinese icebreaker might be stuck

The Chinese icebreaker ship that rescued them from the Russian ship Akademik Shokalskiy stuck in thick ice by helicopter just a day ago might now be stuck in that ice itself. Yep.

Australian authorities say the ship "has concerns about their ability to move through heavy ice in the area."

Those 52 passengers, who'd been stuck since Christmas Eve, are now onboard an Australian ship, and it's going to stay in the open water nearby "as a precautionary measure." (Via ITV)

But hey, we're sure that happy Akademik crew would be more than fine with returning the favor and rescuing the Chinese ship right back. (Via BBC)

The Chinese ship will attempt to get out of the ice Saturday morning, when the tidal conditions are optimal. And again, this is a case of we're stuck, not we're in danger — the people on board both ships are OK.

So, now we're just waiting for them to make a few videos. (Via YouTube / Intrepid Science)
