The nation’s fast-food chicken wars are about to enter a new battleground.

While several breakfast chicken menu items are already being served at many McDonald's, the global fast-food giant will add more chicken items to its breakfast menu at all U.S. locations, according to Business Insider.

McDonald’s will launch the new menu items in January.

The Southern-style Chicken Biscuit and a regular Chicken Biscuit are already on many metro Atlanta Mickey D’s menus.

McDonald’s has not announced which breakfast chicken items will be added. The company has tested such items as the McChicken McMuffin and Chicken McGriddle at various locations.

In July, the company announced it would test the Blueberry McGriddle at more than 100 Washington, D.C., metro locations.

McDonald’s has served breakfast sandwiches since 1971 with the creation of its Egg McMuffin. McGriddles were introduced to restaurants in 2003.

Atlanta is one of the battlegrounds in the fast-food chicken wars, since its home to Chick-fil-A. On Nov. 3, Popeyes will bring back its chicken sandwich, an item that ignited a viral competition with the Hapeville-based Chick-fil-A.

Popeyes launched its chicken sandwich Aug. 12 and ran out of its inventory two weeks later, after a heated debate ensued over which fast-food spot served the best chicken sandwich.

Popeyes has hired extra workers in anticipation of the sandwich’s return, hoping to avoid the long lines that often wrapped around blocks and kept people in the drive-through for hours.
