A man threw two shoes at President Bush during a news conference Sunday in Baghdad.

A television correspondent throws a shoe at President George W. Bush during a news conference with Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday in Baghdad. The man threw two shoes at Bush, one after another. Bush ducked both throws.

This image from video shows the journalist throwing the shoe. "This is a farewell kiss, you dog," he yelled in Arabic.

The president joked about the incident. "If you want the facts, it was a size 10," he said.

Bodyguards secure the president after the incident.

The news conference was part of a surprise visit to Baghdad by Bush.

Earlier, Bush visited with Gen. Ray Odierno, Commander of U.S. forces in Iraq.

Bush during a press conference in Baghdad on Sunday, while yelling in Arabic: "This is a farewell kiss, you dog, this is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets Monday to demand the release of a reporter who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush, as Arabs across many parts of the Middle East hailed the journalist as a hero and praised his insult as a proper send-off to the unpopular U.S. president.
