Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are engaged in what many may consider one of the most heated presidential races in recent history.
But that hasn't stopped the Republican presidential candidate’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, from opening up about her relationship with the competition: Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton.
Ivanka, 34, said that despite this year's presidential race, she and Chelsea, 36, are still friendly, according to a People report.
The relationship between the two may be amicable because both women are bonded by parents who have been in the face of public scrutiny for dozens of years.
"We are (friendly)," Ivanka told People, adding, "There's certainly tremendous intensity around both of our lives right now."
The same can't be said for their parents.
Hillary and Bill Clinton were guests at Donald Trump's wedding to his third and current wife, Melania Trump, in 2005, but the two don't agree on the reason why the Clintons attended the event.
Donald Trump said he extended the invitation to the Democratic nominee because he felt obligated to do so.
"Hillary Clinton, I said be at my wedding, and she came to my wedding," he said. "She had no choice because I gave to (the Clinton) Foundation."
He later told People he had been intentional in his relationship with Hillary before the election season.
"We're both incredibly supportive of our parents, as we should be," Ivanka said of her relationship with Chelsea recently. "But we also continue to have great respect for one another. Our friendship has never been about politics. I don't expect it will be about politics in the future."
Ivanka and Chelsea, who both live in New York, met through their husbands, Jewish businessmen Jared Kushner and Marc Mezvinsky. They both attended Ivy League schools, have written advice books for young women, have lived through their fathers' scandals and have taken active roles in their parents' business ventures.
Ivanka was 10 years old when her father's relationship with Marla Maples ended in a bad, public divorce, and Chelsea was a teenager when her father's White House affair with Monica Lewinsky made headlines. Now, Chelsea is vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, and Ivanka is executive vice president of development and acquisitions of The Trump Organization.
Speaking of Ivanka in a 2015 Vogue interview, Chelsea said: "She's always aware of everyone around her and ensuring that everyone is enjoying the moment. It's an awareness that in some ways reminds me of my dad, and his ability to increase the joy of the room. There's nothing skin-deep about Ivanka. And I think that's a real tribute to her because certainly anyone as gorgeous as she is could have probably gone quite far being skin-deep."
Ivanka, who has children ages 3 months, 2 and 5, said she and Chelsea haven't seen each other since the two gave birth to their youngest children. Chelsea has two children -- a 22-month-old and a 1-month-old.
"Friendship is always more important than politics," Chelsea Clinton told People last fall. "I learned that growing up, watching my parents be friends with people across the political spectrum in Arkansas."
A report published by Politico said the two, who are "the kind of friends who see each other for dinner a few times a year, not those who text each other all day," have been intentional about not being spotted together in recent months.
