Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old man who suffered a spinal injury while in police custody following a foot chase in Baltimore, was most likely injured when the police van suddenly decelerated.
That's according to the autopsy report obtained by The Baltimore Sun.
Gray was riding in the back of the van and had been loaded into it on his belly, but the medical examiner said he may have gotten to his feet and been thrown against the wall when the moving van abruptly turned and changed direction.
Gray died a week after his arrest, sparking protests over police brutality that lasted for days.
Six officers involved in Gray’s case were criminally charged, and all of them pleaded not guilty.
A trial is set for October.
