With the assistance of team staff members, Brees compiled a list of 174 individuals who he wanted to receive a commemorative football to mark his milestone, NFL.com reported. Recipients included not just receivers, but offensive lineman, blockers and coaches over the quarterback's 18-year career that he felt deserved acknowledgment.

For Saints' rookie wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith, the gift from Brees has double meaning. Not only did his 62-yard touchdown reception in week 5 against the Redskins secure the all-time passing record for Brees, it was also the rookie's first NFL touchdown.

In addition to a customized football, recipients also will receive a letter of gratitude from Brees, NFL.com reported.
