Dressbarn, a national women’s clothing retailer, announced it will begin liquidation sales at all of its stores beginning Friday.

In May, the New Jersey-based retailer said it would eventually close all of its 650 stores. The company expects all of its stores to close no later than Dec. 26 or while merchandise lasts.

Dressbarn will continue to operate its online store, which will remain open for business throughout the store-closing process. The online store will accept gift cards and merchandise credits through Dec. 31 or while merchandise supplies last.

Dressbarn will unveil a new online platform about Jan. 1.

“We believe the future of Dressbarn is bright and we are excited to grow and expand the online presence for the brand,” said Tai Lopez, co-owner of Retail Ecommerce Ventures.

“With our deep understanding and expertise in marketing and online brands, we are looking forward to taking this iconic brand to the next level,” said Alex Mehr, co-owner of Retail Ecommerce Ventures.

Dressbarn has been in business for almost 60 years and employs about 6,800 people. In May, CFO Steven Taylor called the decision "difficult but necessary" as the stores had "not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today's retail environment."

Dressbarn was founded in Stamford, Connecticut, in 1962 by Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe. The married couple wanted to provide women who were entering the workforce a one-stop shop for valuable fashions.
