Jairo Morales was walking his own dog Monday when he came across the mud-stained face of a limping Shih Tzu.

"When I saw her, I saw my own dog's face," Morales, who owns a Shih Tzu named Princess, told KNBC. "I didn't have the heart to leave her there, just on the street."

They spent Tuesday together and the following day he took her to a veterinarian. It discovered she had a microchip and her name is Shawnee. It turns out, she had disappeared from the Culberhouse family four years earlier.

The Culberhouse family was in Arizona but turned around to reunite with Shawnee.

"I just had to keep the faith that she was alive, she was out there, and she was waiting for me to find her," Joyce Culberhouse told KNBC.
