A mother and her boyfriend have been charged with first-degree murder following the death of a 10-month-old infant boy in April, according to police.

On April 22, police were called to the 100 block of Twin Barns Road in Greeneville, Tennessee, where investigators found Kade Jackson Paris dead while in the care of his mother, Ashley McCamey, 21, and her boyfriend, Brandon Marsh, 28, according to a news release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

A Greene County grand jury indicted the couple on Monday. Both were charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated child neglect. McCamey was also charged with aggravated child endangerment.

McCamey and Marsh are in custody at the Greene County Detention Center under a $250,000 bond. Their initial criminal court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Jack Paris, Kade’s father, described his son as a happy kid. “We always had fun car rides together, just listening to music,” he told WCYB. “He was always so happy, always had a smile on his face, was never really a fussy child.”

Paris had a vision for his son, saying, “I just always wanted my son to grow up and have a better life than I did. I tried my best. He was just such a sweet loving boy.”
