Kraft and Brooklyn-based Van Leeuwen Ice Cream have teamed up to create mac-and-cheese-flavored ice cream just in time for National Macaroni and Cheese Day on Wednesday.

The limited-edition flavor will be available in Van Leeuwen’s stores in New York, Los Angeles, Houston and on its website for $12 a pint while supplies last.

“We know that there is nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than ice cream. That is why we wanted to combine two of the most iconic comfort foods to create an ice cream with the unforgettable flavor of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese we all grew up with,” Emily Violett, senior associate brand manager for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, said in a press release.

Van Leeuwen artisanal ice cream is made with just a few ingredients, one of the huge selling points for Kraft.

“As big fans of Van Leeuwen, we knew they’d be the perfect partner to create this ice cream with us. Not only does it taste delicious, but it’s also made with high-quality ingredients and contains no artificial flavors, preservatives, or dyes just like our Kraft Macaroni & Cheese,” Violett said.

This isn’t the first time companies have been experimenting with ice cream flavors. In 2020, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese gave its connoisseurs the opportunity to try pumpkin spice macaroni and cheese that was made with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ginger.

In 2019, Los Angeles-based creamery Coolhaus Ice Cream teamed up with French’s to develop a limited edition mustard-flavored ice cream to celebrate National Mustard Day.

That same year Van Leeuwen Ice Cream released “Popeye’s Fleet Treat,” a spinach-flavored ice cream made with organic spinach leaves, sea salt, extra virgin olive oil and turmeric.

And in 2018 the “Not Fried Chicken” ice cream bucket was created by Cynthia Wong, owner and chef of Charleston-based ice cream truck Life Raft Treats.
