A movie about singer Gregg Allman reportedly will proceed following the death of a filming crew member. The investigation into the fatal train wreck continues.
“The company says it still plans to release the picture in the U.S. but does not have a release date set,” Deadline.com reported Friday. The site had earlier reported that Open Road Films would seek to withdraw from the project.
Sarah Elizabeth Jones, 27, of Atlanta was fatally struck by a train near Jesup Thursday while working with Savannah-based Meddin Studios on the movie, “Midnight Rider.”
An Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter visited the studio in Savannah where the production is based Saturday, but was referred to a Los Angeles publicity firm for comment. Calls and emails to the firm weren’t answered.
In its most recent statement about the case, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the “investigation is ongoing and CSX Railroad personnel, Rayonier Mill personnel, and the film crew personnel are all cooperating. Due to the ongoing investigation no further information can be released at this time.”
A South Carolina native, Jones was a beloved member of various film communities. Camera assistant Daniel Turek worked with her on projects that included the Lifetime show “Army Wives” in the Charleston area.
“On a camera crew, you have the experience of working with all kinds of interesting people, people who may be hardworking, intelligent, confident or charming, but in my years of work I have met few who possessed every one of these qualities so well as Sarah did,” Turek said. “In a difficult situation, where others might panic, Sarah would confidently perform her duties with a firm ‘I got this’ attitude.”
Melissa Rutland, who has worked as an actress, stand-in/double and crew member on Atlanta area projects, posted a photo of herself with her late friend online and also a tribute: “Enjoy the beauty of your new heavenly home. I know the angels will enjoy having your beautiful self there.”
