Missouri deputy dies when patrol car swept into swollen river

A Missouri sheriff's deputy died Friday night when his patrol car was swept downstream by fast-rising water, KSPR reported.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department identified the deputy as Aaron Paul Roberts, the television station reported.

Authorities said Roberts responded to a 911 call in Fair Grove, KTTS reported. As the deputy returned from the call, he radioed that his car was being washed off the road into the Pomme de Terre River.

Nearly five inches of rain fell on eastern Greene County on Friday night, KSPR reported. The heavy rain led to many flooded low-water crossings in the area, officials said.
