A 28-year-old woman missing from Charleston, South Carolina, since late last week was found beaten to death Monday alongside the body of another man at a home more than 200 miles away, according to police.
Celia Sweeney, who moved to Charleston from Massachusetts about a year ago, was first reported missing Friday by friends and co-workers, according to WCVB ABC News 5. Authorities carried out a welfare check but couldn't find Sweeney.
Late Saturday, authorities happened upon Sweeney's abandoned car, a black 2010 Audi S5 convertible with Massachusetts license plates, according to reports. By Monday, investigators had connected the disappearance to a home on Ohenry Drive in Inman, just outside of Spartanburg, WTOC News 11 reported. That is where they found her body.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, according to WTOC, citing Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger.
The Charleston Police Department identified the deceased male victim as 32-year-old Buddy Allen Carr, a man known to live on the same street as the house where the bodies were found, according to FOX Carolina.
WCVB reported that police were led to the address after having identified Carr as a person of interest in the case. Authorities have not yet revealed how Carr may have been connected to Sweeney, nor how he died. His autopsy was pending.
