Medicare paid millions to three Georgia doctors

April 9, 2014

For decades, medical groups fought to keep under wraps how much doctors are paid by Medicare. On Wednesday, with the court battles resolved, the federal government released the information for the first time. It shows that of more than 800,000 health care providers nationwide, only about 4,000 were paid $1 million or more in 2012. About 100 of those doctors were listed in Georgia.

An even tinier group — just 344 nationwide — were paid more than $3 million. In that elite group were three physicians from Georgia. Topping the list was a Roswell doctor listed as being paid more than $5.8 million.

He and other top-paid doctors were surprised by the data and provided some interesting perspectives on the Medicare payments. To read what the doctors had to say, click here. You can see the list of Georgia's top-paid physicians by clicking here.
