Clarkston police Tuesday were investigating an overnight shooting that left a man dead.

The shooting happened about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Portofino Apartments on Brockett Way.

Clarkston police Chief Christine Hudson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that officers responding to a report of multiple gunshots found the man dead on the ground outside an apartment building.

The man had been shot several times, including a gunshot to the head, Hudson said.

She said the victim, who was carrying no identification, appears to be in his 20s.

“We’ve been talking to multiple witnesses, and no one saw anything, they just heard the gunshots,” Hudson said just before daybreak. “That’s all we have at this time. Hopefully, throughout the day, we’ll gain more leads in this.”

Hudson said the shooting was the city’s first homicide “in a couple of years.”

Resident Brenda Ewing told Channel 2 Action News that she was on her way to work when she saw the victim’s body in between two cars in the parking lot.

“It’s just nerve-racking,” Ewing said. “Never seen anything like this, never even seen cop cars over here like this.”
