A man is dead after he shot and wounded his brother inside an Augusta hotel late Wednesday and then apparently turned the gun on himself, according to several news reports, citing the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
When officers arrived at the Comfort Suites Augusta off Riverwatch Parkway shortly before midnight, they found both gunshot victims lying in a hallway, according to WJBF News Channel 6, the ABC affiliate in Augusta.
Rison Jackson, 28, was wounded in the right leg, and Andrew Ward, 30, was wounded in the head, WJBF reported. Both were rushed to nearby Augusta University Medical Center, where Ward died, according to reports.
Investigators determined Jackson and the gunman, Ward, to be brothers.
Police told WJBF that Ward may have been under the influence of drugs and booze when he fired a handgun on Jackson and another woman who was at the hotel with them.
WJBF reported Jackson fired several rounds at the woman but missed. That is when police said Ward shot himself in the head.
The hotel is near Interstate 20 among a cluster of four other similar hotels.
Police said they do not expect to file charges in the case.
