Police believe road rage led to a shooting early Monday morning that shut down a busy Decatur road.

The victim crashed into a parked car at the Scott Court condominiums on Scott Boulevard near Clairemont Avenue following the shooting, Decatur police said. Investigators closed all but one lane while they were on scene from about 4:45 a.m. until just before 7 a.m.

According to Decatur police spokesman Sgt. John Bender, the victim was not injured. He told police he was driving east on Scott Boulevard when he mistakenly cut off an SUV near Coventry Road.

“The SUV pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and fired shots at the vehicle, striking it,” Bender said in an emailed statement. “The victim accelerated away from the area and struck a parked vehicle in a nearby parking lot.”
