An Acworth man is accused of firing a rifle eight times at another man, killing him in the street, according to an arrest warrant.

Brian Parker, 31, was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault following the shooting early Sunday, police said. Zachary Shaw was killed outside a home on Willow Street, near the intersection with Emerald Willow Drive in Acworth.

The shooting death is the first homicide for the city of Acworth in more than two years, police said Monday.

Acworth Police responded to Emerald Willow Drive in reference to a shooting. One victim was pronounced deceased. Detectives are interviewing several witnesses.

Officers found Shaw, 27, of Powder Springs, lying outside a home shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Acworth police Capt. Mark Cheatham. Shaw was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On Monday, Cheatham said the shooting was not random. According to Parker’s arrest warrant, he fired an AR-15 style rifle at Shaw.

“Said accused did fire his rifle eight times at said victim, striking him several times,” the warrant states.

No possible motive has been released in the shooting, which remains under investigation.

Parker was being held without bond Monday afternoon at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to booking records.

In March 2018, Acworth officers investigated the last known homicide within the city limits. Daniel Perez, 25, died after being shot in the head while inside his truck at a shopping center near North Cobb High School. Investigators believe the incident began as an armed robbery, and the case is still pending, according to court records.
