A Decatur man was arrested in Alabama on Friday in connection with a deadly shooting at a DeKalb County apartment complex, authorities said.
Aqontise Phanique Glenn, 31, was arrested by U.S. marshals and local police in Calhoun County, Alabama, in the Sept. 8 killing of 36-year-old Christopher Copeland, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said. Glenn has been charged with murder.
Copeland, who is from Stockbridge, was fatally wounded at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Columbia Drive in Decatur, Williams said. Authorities did not say what led up to the shooting, but Williams said Glenn shot Copeland in the leg and head.
When officers arrived on scene, Copeland was found in the parking lot of the complex suffering from the gunshot wounds, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said. He died at the scene.
Glenn fled the location in a vehicle, but was identified as the suspected shooter by a witness, Vincent added.
Glenn was held at the Calhoun County Jail until he was extradited to DeKalb County.
