Atlanta police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with a July homicide in south Fulton County.

Travis Smith was taken into custody Thursday and is still in the Fulton County jail.

Smith is accused of shooting 24-year-old Cortez Dowell in the early morning hours of July 27 inside a home in the area of Jonesboro Road and Hutchens Road.

Police arrived at the scene, in the 2900 block of Orchard Lane, and found a critically wounded Dowell, according to a news release from Atlanta police spokesman Ralph Woolfolk. Dowell was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
