More jobs are coming to Macon.

Irving Tissue, a large producer of household paper products, officially opened its $400 million-plus state-of-the art tissue manufacturing facility Wednesday in Macon, adding 200 jobs to the local economy.

And there was more good news.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert, the company announced it would soon break ground on another facility that’s expected to bring an additional 150 jobs by January 2022.

“It is a great day for Macon, the state of Georgia and Irving Tissue," said Robert K. Irving, president of the company. "We’re pleased to be expanding our business in the United States. We knew that this plant’s strategic location would allow us to reach key markets and help to drive our growth.”

The facility broke ground in 2017 when Nathan Deal was still governor. It carried a $470 million price tag to build.

Construction was completed earlier this year in Sofkee Industrial Park, according to The Macon Telegraph.

The second phase of the facility is expected to cost about $400 million.

"We're not done yet," Irving said at the grand opening.

Abby Kousouris, a reporter for 13WMAZ News, the CBS affiliate in Macon, posted photos of the new facility on Twitter.

Irving Consumer Products, based in Dieppe, New Brunswick, is one of North America’s leading manufacturers of household paper, baby diapers and children's training pants.
