The second of two inmates who escaped Tuesday from the Lumpkin County Detention Center after they removed a toilet from a wall has been recaptured.

Larry Lavaughan Farmer was arrested without incident just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, about a half-mile from the sheriff’s office, Lumpkin sheriff’s Lt. Wesley Burnett said.

Officers realized Farmer and William Jeffrey Harris were gone about 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, Lumpkin authorities said Wednesday in an emailed statement.

According to officials, the men removed the toilet, broke through an interior cell wall, entered a mechanical area, damaged a window in that area and exited the jail.

Once outside, Farmer and Harris scaled two fences, one with barbed wire and the other with razor wire. Harris was injured as he climbed the fences and turned himself in, authorities said.

Farmer, who was in the Lumpkin County Detention Center on multiple traffic offenses as well as a number of felony drug and weapons charges, is now facing additional charges of escape and criminal interference with governmental property, according to Burnett.
