Using comprehensive data from the U.S. Census, Department of Education, FBI and more, Niche.com assessed the overall livability of an area for its "2019 Best Places" ranking.

To come up with the list, analysts examined America’s suburbs—places within a Census-defined urbanized area but outside the principal city, with a population of at least 1,000—and considered 15 key factors such as cost of living, diversity, walkability, crime rates, quality of local schools, weather, community health statistics, employment rates and access to amenities.

Analysts also incorporated millions of reviews from residents about their community.

With an overall A+ Niche grade and an A+ in public schools, family-friendliness and nightlife, the city of Decatur ranked No. 1 among 100 Georgia suburbs and No. 16 nationally. Last year, the DeKalb County suburb ranked 60th nationally. In 2017, it was 26th. The city is also among Niche.com's 100 best suburbs for young professionals in America.

Johns Creek came in second in the state’s suburbs ranking, followed by Alpharetta and Berkeley Lake.
