Looking for a new furry friend to cure those post-Thanksgiving blues, metro Atlanta?
Thanks to online retailer Zappos and Best Friends Animal Society, you can adopt a dog or cat for free at several metro Atlanta rescue groups. But get a move on — the offer ends today.
Zappos is orchestrating the effort — which started Friday — in hopes of spurring the adoption of 9,000 dogs and cats, which is the same number they say are killed each day in America's shelters.
Metro Atlanta locations where Zappos will cover adoption fees are listed below. Check each rescue's website for hours of operation.
- LifeLine Animal Project, which has locations at DeKalb County Animal Services (845 Camp Road, Decatur), Fulton County Animal Services (860 Marietta Blvd. NW, Atlanta) and its own cat adoption center (3172 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Scottdale).
- Best Friends - Atlanta, 4874 South Atlanta Road, Atlanta.
- PAWS Atlanta, 5287 Covington Highway, Decatur.
- Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters, 2650 Pleasantdale Road, Atlanta.
- Good Mews Animal Foundation, 3805 Robinson Road, Marietta.
- Georgia SPCA, 1175 Highway 23, Suite 109, Suwanee.
The latter posted on Facebook on Sunday that 43 dogs had already been adopted since the program started.
Several other locations outside the metro Atlanta area are also participating in the Zappos program. Click here for a full list.
