With a foot to the front door, gunmen barged into a DeKalb County apartment and sprayed the living room, leaving 28-year-old Anthony Greg Johnson dead on the sofa, next to a 2-year-old boy.

Questions remain on the horrific Wednesday night scene in Johnson's Scottdale-area home. Chief among them is who the perpetrators were and why they descended on the unit at Oak Forest Apartments on Hatton Drive.

But a report released Friday sheds light on the crime.

It was after 10 p.m. when the assailants came.

A group of Johnson's visitors were in front of the television, including the little boy, who was joined by his mother and father on the couch.

Two other children, 9 and 11, were in a back room.

The front door thrust open suddenly.

Numerous bullets rained on the living room.

The child on the couch wasn’t hurt.

His father, a 30-year-old Lithonia man, was shot. So was a 32-year-old neighbor of Johnson. Both men were taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said Thursday.

When officers arrived, Johnson lay dead on the floor, gunshots to the head, leg and arm, the report said.

“Multiple gunshot holes were in the walls, sofa and window along with numerous spent shell casings in the living room,” an officer wrote.

Witnesses apparently didn't know the suspects or how many there were, but police told Channel 2 Action News they had some trouble getting information at the scene.

Authorities haven’t released a suspected motive in the case, other than to say, without elaborating, it appears “drug-related."

Efforts to reach Johnson's family were unsuccessful Friday.
