Winning Powerball ticket sold in Atlanta earlier this year

A customer chooses which numbers to play in Georgia's Powerball game.

An $82,806,756 Powerball ticket was sold at a Publix Super Market in Atlanta earlier this year. The winning ticket was paid Oct. 5, 2016, after being picked up at the Brookhaven retailer.

The lucky ticket was one of at least three winning Powerball tickets claimed in the metro Atlanta area from July to October, according to data from the Georgia Lottery Corp. The lottery provided data on prizes exceeding $600.

At least $107.8 million in prize money was claimed during that time from tickets sold at area stores .

All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K program. Check out winning numbers at http://www.ajc.com/lottery.
