Q: Who are the members of Jekyll Island Authority and by whom were they appointed? Did the agreement choosing a developer and the financial terms require approval by the state Legislature and our governor?
— John Sanford Foy, Atlanta
A: The nine-member Jekyll Island Authority board of directors is appointed by the governor. By law, the board consists of the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (or a designee) and eight Georgia residents, two of whom must reside in one of the six coastal counties, said Eric Garvey, chief communications officer for the Jekyll Island Authority. Each member of the board of directors serves four-year terms, and the chairman of the board is appointed by the governor to serve a one-year term. The board consists of: Chairman Robert “Bob” W. Krueger of Hawkinsville, Benjamin “Ben” G. Porter of Macon, Homer “Buddy” DeLoach of Hinesville, Michael D. Hodges of St. Simons Island, Sybil D. Lynn of Jesup, Samuel B. Kellett of Atlanta, Stephen “Steve” B. Croy of Richmond Hill, A. Richard Royal of Camilla and DNR Commissioner Chris Clark. Member of the board of directors, who do not receive compensation, have the sole authority and responsibility to approve the financial terms of the agreement, such as the one with Linger Longer Communities, and it does not require approval from the Legislature or the governor, Garvey said.
