Pamela Whitten’s first official act as new Kennesaw State University president is to gently shove some owls out of the nest.
Whitten will preside over KSU’s summer commencement ceremonies Thursday.
She started her new role July 16 after a unanimous vote from Georgia's Board of Regents.
Longtime owl Ken Harmon had been interim president since February after former Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens resigned. Since the start of his 16-month stint, Olens weathered much criticism.

Whitten was previously the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Georgia, which she’d been doing since 2014.
Kennesaw State has about 35,000 students, which makes it Georgia’s third-largest school by enrollment.
The Thursday festivities will be held at the Kennesaw State University Convocation Center, 1000 Chastain Road in Kennesaw.

• 10 a.m. – College of Architecture and Construction Management, Coles College of Business, College of Computing and Software Engineering, Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, and WellStar College of Health and Human Services
• 3 p.m. – College of the Arts, Bagwell College of Education, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Science and Mathematics, and University College
• 7 p.m. – Graduate College
