What is bus rapid transit included in Atlanta traffic project?

Bus rapid transit service will be included in traffic improvements planned along Ga. 400, but what is that?

An AJC article compared it to passenger rail on tires, where riders board at stations or park-ride lots. The buses make limited stops to speed commuters to their destination.

Bus rapid transit generally operates in dedicated lanes or in some kind of carpool lane set aside for vehicles with multiple passengers, according to the Federal Transit Adminstration.

The proposal for Ga. 400 calls for the bus routes to use new toll lanes that were already in the planning stages.
