A water line replacement in Martin’s Landing subdivision will disrupt most roads there for about 6 months, a Roswell official said.

Martin's Landing is an East Roswell community of 2,000 homes on more than 1,000 acres. The water line project starts in the Lakeview Ridge neighborhood and will affect pavement on Martin Road, Lakeview Ridge East, Lakeview Ridge West, Windward Lane, Cruise Court, Leeward Lane, Southwind Circle and Starboard Point.

Roswell City Council has already approved $241,178 to resurface the roads when the work is completed. Fulton is providing a little more than half of the funds for resurfacing and the city will pay the remainder of the cost.

The work to replace the subdivision’s water line is expected to cost Fulton County about $1.2 million, according to Terry I. Peters, deputy director in the Fulton County Department of Public Works. “We’ve broken ground already and we’re doing prep work,” said Peters. “We’re hoping to end quickly but we wanted to plan for the rain and inclement weather.”

Muhammad Rauf, Roswell director of Transportation, said during a recent committee meeting that the county would patch the road after the water line work. “It’s going to be safe, of course, for all travel by the citizens. It’s just not going to look very good while it’s in that condition.”

Roswell transportation workers will follow-up soon after and resurface the roads, added Rauf. "This year or next we would do our work," he said. "There is going to be several months of delay if the county is a little late finishing the project."

Stephanie Dean, who lives with her family in Martin’s Landing, believes the subdivision has enough alternative routes to prevent a line of stopped traffic waiting to get out of the subdivision. “Six months is a long time,” said Dean. “This could divert traffic from East Roswell to West Roswell. East Roswell already has had so much trouble getting people to come to their businesses.”
