As polls opened for early risers ready to cast their ballots for the General Primary election, voter turnout started out light in DeKalb County.
About 15 voters were in line at the DeKalb School of the Arts before polls opened at 7 a.m. Throughout the early morning, around 20 more voters slowly streamed in.
Kelly McCollum, a DeKalb voter, came today to make a statement.
“Well, I’m just here to get more Democrats in office,” said McCollum.
“I’m just going for a straight Democratic ballot. For governor, I’m going right to voting for Stacey Abrams.”
Voters will choose from candidates for numerous offices in both partisan primaries and nonpartisan races. Runoffs will be held on July 24. The general election is Nov. 6.
Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
DeKalb county voters must visit their assigned precincts in order to cast their ballots.
