Valdosta State president steps down

Valdosta State University President Patrick Schloss is stepping down July 1 and Louis Levy, the former provost, will serve as interim president, officials announced Wednesday.

The regents took no action to re-appoint Schloss when they dealt with presidential appointments earlier this month, spokesman John Millsaps said.

Schloss, president since 2008, will continue to work on the University System of Georgia's initiative to improve graduation and retention rates.
