Tracee McDaniel, an advocate for transgender rights, has been appointed to the Atlanta Citizen Review Board, the panel with oversight of the Atlanta Police Department and Department of Corrections.

“It is always essential to have minority voices in the room, and our LGBTQ community has a tremendous stake in positive police-community relations,” Mayor Kasim Reed said in making the appointment.

McDaniel is the founder and executive director of the Juxtaposed Center for Transformation Inc., an advocacy, consulting and social services referral organization serving the transgender and gender non-conforming community, according to a city news release on her appointment.

McDaniel has served on the Atlanta police LGBT Advisory Board, the board of directors for the Trans Housing Atlanta Program, and the programming board for The Center for Human Rights LGBT Institute.
