A teenager was arrested Friday, three weeks after DeKalb County authorities said he shot a teenager in the face, killing him.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office said the juvenile shot Rene Betancourt, 18, on Nov. 28 during a dispute at the Oak Forest Apartments off Hatton Drive in Scottdale.

Betancourt was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. The DeKalb County School District confirmed he  was a student at Druid Hill High School.

DeKalb sheriff’s deputies arrested the juvenile at an apartment complex near Lithonia. He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail and then taken to a youth detention center. The teen faces a murder charge.

Officials said they could not disclose the suspect’s name, but said he was 16.

According to a police report, officers were called to the apartment complex after Betancourt’s friend heard a gunshot in the area.

The friend later found Betancourt laying on the ground near a set of steps. Police said he was  “bleeding heavily” from his face.
