Suwanee participates in the Gwinnett Urban County Community Development Block Grant Program which is designed to provide affordable housing, particularly rental housing, for very low and low-income families. As part of the program Suwanee automatically participates in the HOME Investment Partnerships Program and Emergency Solutions Grant program if the urban county receives HOME and ESG funding, respectively. To continuing participating in the program, the city must requalify every three years.
The Suwanee City Council voted recently to enter into an agreement to extend Suwanee’s participation through Dec. 31, 2021.
The city has used previous CDBG funds to help finance numerous public improvements, support non-profit agencies, and provide assistance to low and moderate-income families.
