ELLIJAY, Ga. — Authorities say storms destroyed an animal shelter in the Ellijay area of north Georgia, but all of the animals somehow survived.

Gilmer County Fire Chief Tony Pritchett says the shelter was obliterated by the storms.

Pritchett told the Associated Press that firefighters arrived shortly after the storm struck and began removing debris from animals trapped in the rubble.

WSB-TV reports that 64 animals were inside the barn when the storm hit, and the last creature rescued was a dove named Mrs. Noah.
