The city of Snellville’s general fund surplus is more than $2 million larger than it was last year.

Snellville approves plan for walking, biking paths throughout city

The city announced that its surplus is $7.97 million, up from $5.48 million at the end of 2016. Multiple sources of revenue were underestimated this year, including tax revenues, which came in $257,599 higher than anticipated, and building permits, which brought in $80,000 more than expected. Sale of unneeded and unused city property added more than $250,000 to the city’s general fund.

“We are very fortunate to have had a strong year financially in Fiscal Year 2017 throughout city government,” said City Manager Butch Sanders in a release. “We have added substantially to our fund balance and that’s a testament to our Department Directors and employees.”
