The Reed House renovation in Smyrna is getting closer to completion as an event center.

A contract for almost $246,845 was awarded recently to Tucker Grading and Hauling by the Smyrna City Council for the parking area. The city also is accepting donations on loan of quality period furniture or pieces and artwork by contacting Richard Garland, the city’s parks and recreation director, at 678-631-5397.

Smyrna officials purchased the 1910 house for $1.8 million and spent $1.5 million on renovations and to make the house accessible to the disabled. Of the $1.5 million, $300,000 came from the federal Community Development Block Grant for the American Disabilities Act improvements to the house of 4,900 square feet on 3.55 acres at 3080 Atlanta Road.
