The Georgia Department of Transportation has selected six heavily travelled roadways in Gwinnett for its Regional Traffic Operation Program. The program actively monitors, manages and maintains traffic signals by assigning consultant, traffic engineers and technicians to maintain and monitor the signal operations for this corridor. The program provides a full-time traffic engineer who actively monitors the corridor. Cameras will be added for traffic monitoring at key intersections.

The system will be installed along State Route 40 between Peachtree Corners and Tucker, State Route 141between Peachtree Corners and Alpharetta/Milton, State Route 120/State Bridge Road between Duluth and Alpharetta, State Route 20 between Buford and Lawrenceville, and State Route 154/State Route 10 between downtown Atlanta all the way through Snellville.

The RTOP was developed to address concerns experienced throughout the region including ongoing traffic signal maintenance and repair issues, coordination of traffic signals across jurisdictional boundaries, and monitoring and management of traffic flow during peak travel periods.

The upgrades are expected to be installed in 2019.
