Shootout erupts in Marietta Wal-Mart parking lot

A shootout erupted outside a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Marietta early Wednesday. Five vehicles were hit by gunfire, but no one was hurt, police said.

The shootout happened about 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 210 Cobb Parkway South, between Roswell Road and South Marietta Parkway. Responding officers questioned one of the shooters, but he was not charged. The other shooter remains at large.

"The investigation is obviously in its early stages and not much is known at this point," Officer Jenny Murphy, a police spokeswoman, told the AJC.

She said there were customers in the parking lot and inside the store at the time of the shootout. Police are interviewing witnesses.

"I didn't know what was going on. I was scared to death," Ronise Croumpler, who was leaving the store when the shooting started, told CBS Atlanta.   "It was just crazy, one of the scariest things I've experienced in my life."

Several shell casings were recovered from the lot. Murphy could not say how many shots were fired.
