Plans to widen Hammond Drive continue to move forward. Sandy Springs City Council will vote, Tuesday, on the $465,000 purchase of a residential property that allows for the widening of the road.

The city has a $60 million transformation project in the works to help relieve normal weekday traffic backups along Hammond Drive. Multi-use paths are planned at Kayron, which intersects with Hammond.

A 1950’s single family home is located on the 20,000 square foot lot that’s being considered for purchase.

Funds for the Kayron Drive lot are budgeted in the special purpose sales tax, which was approved in 2016, according to a City Clerk office memo. A total of $14.4 million is dedicated to the project from the TSPLOST.

Additional plans for Hammond Drive include adding a lane in each direction; more turn lanes at Roswell Road and Glenridge Drive; roundabouts, sidewalks and greenspace.

City Council members will decide on the Kayron Drive property during a 6 p.m. regular meeting.
