Rush hour on new Gwinnett I-85 toll lanes

Optional toll lanes opened over the weekend on I-85 in Gwinnett County, and their first big test was the Monday morning rush hour. Shown above is I-85 looking toward Atlanta near Indian Trail Lilburn Road.

The toll lanes extend from from Old Peachtree Road in Gwinnett to Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb.

Vehicles with three people or more can drive free in the toll lane, but the driver must still have a Peach Pass.

The fee for the toll lane will rise and fall with congestion.

There were periods of no cars using the toll lanes.

Traffic makes its way south from Indian Trail on I-85 Monday morning with few cars using the HOT lanes.

Some commuters chose to dodge morning congestion by using the toll lanes.

Traffic heads north toward Indian Trail on I-85.

The price of the toll fluctuates according to congestion.
