The Roswell City Council has approved an agreement with the Roswell Historical Society to have the society accept, record, preserve and make accessible to the public historically significant materials and artifacts.

According to the historic archives memorandum of understanding, the Historical Society will also educate, offer events and interactive opportunities, provide historical information as needed by the city, and maintain a nonprofit 501(c)3 status so that it can accept donations.

The city will provide a reading room and archival storage space with proper controls, at the mayor and council’s discretion, and fund an archivist’s salary and capital improvements to historic assets, as approved by the mayor and council, the agreement says.

The council has approved total funding of $81,125 for the Historical Society in the 2019 fiscal year: $50,000 for cemetery enhancements, $28,000 for the archivist and $3,125 for a fiber festival exhibit.
