Roswell city officials are inviting the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open a new community playground for joint use by the public and a North Fulton elementary school.
The ceremony is to start at 9 a.m. Friday at the Sweet Apple Elementary Community Playground, next to the school and accessible from Sweet Apple Park, 11850 Crabapple Road. The original playground, built in 2001, was replaced at a cost of $160,000 as part of the Playground Replacement Program of the Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department.
The new playground offers the first “gravity rail component” (similar to a zip line) in the Southeast and a “generation swing” on which an adult and child can sit facing each other, officials said. The facility will be for school use during school hours and the community during non-school hours under a joint use agreement between the city and the Fulton County Schools.
