An upcoming 5K race in DeKalb County organized by the district attorney’s office aims to raise funds and awareness for survivors of domestic violence.

The fifth annual “Love Run 5K” kicks off from Decatur Square on Saturday, Feb. 29, District Attorney Sherry Boston’s office said in a statement.

Registration for the race, which goes through downtown Decatur and is fit for both walkers and runners, is now open online. Participation costs $35, and proceeds will benefit the Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, the DA's office said.

“Educating our community about the cycle of intimate partner violence plays an integral role in prevention. We hope to raise awareness and save lives,” Boston said in a statement.

DeKalb officials, including Boston and Solicitor General Donna Coleman-Stribling's office, have prioritized domestic violence prevention in the county, where officials say domestic violence cases account for nearly a third of all misdemeanor cases.

The Love Run 5K is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at 101 E. Court St. in Decatur.
