Plans for a private school at Dunwoody Community Church will be discussed later this month at a public meeting at the church, at 2250 Dunwoody Club Drive in Sandy Springs.
Backers of Dunwoody Christian School, now being formed, have scheduled the meeting for 6 p.m. Feb. 22 as one of the first steps toward acquiring a use permit from Sandy Springs allowing the school.
It would have 40 to 50 students in kindergarten through 12th grade and seven staff members. Plans call for it to open Aug. 7 with kindergarten, first and second grades, and to grow from there by one grade a year, according to Headmaster Bob Baima.
The nondenominational school, independent of the church, would meet a need for “a full-service, private Christian school for grades K-12 in Dunwoody,” offering academics, music, fine arts and sports.
It began as a search by Baima and his wife for a school for their 5-year-old son, a rising first grader, he said. “We began thinking about it and praying what to do, and felt God was leading us to do this not just for our son, but for other kids as well.”
