The electricity went out for about two hours Tuesday night for thousands of households in south DeKalb County.

Georgia Power started receiving calls to report the outage at 8:45 p.m., utility spokesman Brian Green said. At the height of the outage, 2,800 customers were without electricity.

The incident appeared centered on the Oakhurst area of Decatur. Its cause was under investigation; an equipment malfunction due to the heat was suspected, Green said.

By 10 p.m., Georgia Power had restored power to 1,600 customers by doing switching, “connecting people to different lines that are working and getting as many customers back on as we can," Green said.

The remaining customers had power restored by about 10:30 p.m., he said.
