Construction of a new high-speed fiber optic network for government and commercial users will soon be underway in Peachtree City.

The City Council voted 5-0 Thursday to approve two contracts with NuLink that will provide 1.5-gigabyte access and lease fiber services for $92,520 a year for five years. The city will own and manage the equipment inside its buildings, and NuLink will maintain the fiber in the field.

The council also approved $209,178 for Cpak Technology Solutions to provide the equipment and another $53,500 to install and configure it. Installation could be completed in about two months.
