Peachtree City is preparing a proposal that would award a trash service contract to a single provider for all city residents.

The City Council heard preliminary plans during its Feb. 21 meeting. Currently, three companies — Pollard, Republic and Waste Industries — provide residential trash pickup and curbside recycling. However, the city has been floating the idea of using a single company in order to reduce the amount of trash truck traffic on city streets, which causes more noise as well as wear and tear on the pavement. City staff are putting together a request for proposals that will be discussed at the March 7 council meeting.

Elements of the proposal may include expanded services such as yard waste pickup (including unbagged leaves) and monthly bulk waste pickup. However, City Manager Jon Rorie noted that some complaints about trash vehicles and roadside litter are related to the more than 10 companies that service the city’s commercial areas.
