A Fulton County jury on Tuesday found one man guilty, another not guilty, in the killing of a 9-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet as she sat at her computer.

The jury convicted Jason Ardis, 29, of felony murder in the July 2007 death of Annijah Rolax. Superior Court Judge John Goger sentenced Ardis to life plus 30 years.

Co-defendant Charlie West, 22, was found not guilty.

An “A” student who was about to start fourth grade at Adamsville Elementary, Annijah was shot in the head when a bullet pierced the window of her apartment at Central Methodist Gardens on Fairburn Road. The girl her family called “Precious” was in her bedroom working on her computer.

Prosecutors said Ardis and West were trying to rob a drug dealer in the parking lot, and that Ardis fired 11 shots at the dealer, including the shot that killed Annijah.

Ardis had previously been charged with murder in New Orleans in 2004. The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office said that case was dismissed after Hurricane Katrina destroyed critical evidence.
